Questo libro introduce il multicanale con radio singola come nuovo paradigma per la Distributed Coordinated Function (DCF) di IEEE 802.11 nelle reti di sensori wireless (WSN). Tradizionalmente le WSN non necessitavano di un’elevata velocità di trasmissione dei dati e di un elevato throughput. Con il cambiamento della tecnologia, lo streaming multimediale, la mobilità dei nodi di rilevamento e il traffico veicolare sono diventati la tendenza per la raccolta dei dati di rilevamento e quindi la necessità di un protocollo ad alta velocità di trasmissione dei dati per le WSN. Questo libro si è concentrato sulla progettazione di un algoritmo che applica il multicanale all’algoritmo IEEE 802.11 DCF back-off per ridurre il tempo di attesa di un nodo e aumentare il throughput quando tenta di accedere al mezzo. In primo luogo, sono stati studiati i sublayers MAC per il protocollo MAC IEEE 802.15.4 e IEEE 802.11 per facilitare la comprensione dello schema CSMA/CA di 802.11 e 802.15.4. Le prestazioni di entrambi sono state analizzate. Le prestazioni di entrambi sono state studiate e valutate attraverso risultati di simulazione. In secondo luogo, è stato esaminato l’algoritmo di backoff MC-DCF proposto per l’accesso multicanale basato sui protocolli 802.11 DCF. Questo algoritmo consente ai nodi di avere accesso a più canali non sovrapposti, accedendo ai canali in modo dinamico attraverso la commutazione di canale dopo che è stata raggiunta una soglia stabilita.
