Il metil terziario butil etere (MTBE) è ampiamente utilizzato come ossigenato per carburanti. L’MTBE è un agente sospettato di essere cancerogeno, che rappresenta una significativa minaccia per la salute delle persone. Inoltre, conferisce un sapore molto sgradevole all’acqua potabile. Le tecnologie di trattamento convenzionali sono generalmente inefficaci per la rimozione dell’MTBE dalle acque reflue, pertanto è necessario cercare un design alternativo per rimuovere efficacemente l’MTBE dall’acqua e trasformarlo in un composto meno pericoloso, nonché un sistema economicamente vantaggioso. Il presente lavoro ha introdotto una tecnica innovativa e combinata che unisce le tre principali tecniche di trattamento dell’acqua, ovvero: stripping, ossidazione e adsorbimento, adatte all’uso in aree domestiche e rurali. L’efficacia della presente tecnica è stata testata sperimentalmente con uno dei contaminanti chimici, ovvero l’MTBE. I risultati hanno indicato la massima efficienza (90%) con un tempo di permanenza di 20 minuti. I risultati contribuiranno a far luce su questo nuovo e economico metodo di trattamento e dovrebbero essere particolarmente utili ai professionisti della gestione e del marketing industriale, o a chiunque altro stia valutando di investire in nuovi lavori innovativi.
