A relação entre crescimento económico e emprego sempre preocupou economistas e políticos. Para estudar a relação entre, por um lado, a evolução do crescimento económico e, por outro, o desemprego, os economistas costumam referir-se à lei de Okun. O principal objetivo deste artigo é estimar o coeficiente de Okun e verificar a validade da lei de Okun em alguns países emergentes (Brasil, Rússia, Índia, China, África do Sul e Turquia) para ver se ela é válida ou não, utilizando dados anuais de séries temporais durante o período de 1990 a 2014. São utilizados o teste de cointegração de Engle Granger e o OLS totalmente modificado. Evidências empíricas mostram que a interpretação da lei de Okun pode não ser aplicável em alguns países emergentes.
