Nas últimas décadas, vários desenvolvimentos tornaram possível a otimização global de grandes espaços de opções de projeto multidimensionais. Esses desenvolvimentos incluem o aumento do poder de computação, o surgimento de algoritmos de otimização sofisticados e novas técnicas para a derivação de metamodelos computacionalmente altamente eficientes. Junto com suas promessas, esses desenvolvimentos também envolvem uma série de possíveis desvantagens. Por um lado, os metamodelos ocasionalmente não conseguem capturar o comportamento de projetos 'não convencionais' e complexos. Outro problema crítico diz respeito à natureza potencialmente opaca dos exercícios de otimização global em grande escala, o que os torna menos propícios ao fornecimento de suporte intuitivamente compreensível em um processo de projeto naturalmente iterativo. Neste contexto, esta pesquisa explora o potencial de uma nova abordagem para a otimização global iterativa de clusters de atributos otimizados localmente de soluções de projeto de edifícios.
