'Sozialisation' ist Thema vieler literarischer Texte der Kinder-, Jugend-, Unterhaltungs- und Kanonliteratur. Ausgewählt nach Gesichtspunkten der Ergiebigkeit für eine thematische Analyse und der Brauchbarkeit für literarisches Lernen in der Schule, werden die Texte in Teil I des Buches vor dem Hintergrund aktueller Erkenntnisse über Sozialisation in der Mediengesellschaft untersucht. In Teil II wird eine erweiterte Auswahl an literarischen Texten zum Thema Sozialisation im Hinblick auf ihre Eignung für den Unterricht untersucht und kommentiert. Beide Teile gehen vom Begriff des Übergangs aus, der drei Bedeutungen hat: Entwicklungspsychologisch bezeichnet er die Lösung von überwundenen Entwicklungsphasen; anthropologisch den Wechsel von der Realität der eigenen Lebenswelt in den imaginären Raum der literarischen Fantasie; und tiefenpsychologisch das Eintauchen in ein sog. Lesemoratorium. In allen drei Bedeutungen gründet und fundiert 'Übergang' literarische Kompetenz und gehört zu einer gelingenden Selbstsozialisation.
