In einigen Teilen der mathematischen Theorie des Magnetismus ist man ziemlich weit gekommen, während in anderen die experimentellen Daten mangeln. Die Gesetze der Leitung des galvanischen Stroms und der Wechselwirkung der Stromleiter sind durch mathematische Formeln dargestellte worden, aber sie stehen noch ausser aller Beziehung zu den andern Teilen der Wissenschaft. ' [...]James Clerk Maxwell (1831 - 1897) war einer der bedeutendsten und einflussreichsten Physiker des 19. Jahrhunderts, welcher die Grundlagen der Elektrizitätslehre und des Magnetismus durch die Entwicklung der Maxwellschen Gleichungen bildete. Die vorliegende Abhandlung dient der Veranschaulichung der experimentellen Befunde Faradays anhand der Überführung in eine mathematische Darstellung. Der Verlag der Wissenschaften verlegt historische Literatur bekannter und unbekannter wissenschaftlicher Autoren. Dem interessierten Leser werden so teilweise längst nicht mehr verlegte Werke wieder zugängig gemacht.Das vorliegende Buch ist ein unveränderter Nachdruck der historischen Originalausgabe von 1895. 3
