Ein solcher Kanaltyp wird als α-κ-μ und α-κ-μ extreme Fading-Kanäle bezeichnet. Im Allgemeinen sind die Signale mit zunehmender Entfernung stärker vom Fading betroffen. Daher wird das Relais zur Auffrischung des Signals verwendet, um den Fading-Effekt zu vermeiden. Die verschiedenen verwendeten Relaisstrategien sind 'Dekodieren und weiterleiten', 'Verstärken und weiterleiten' und 'Demodulieren und weiterleiten'. In der Literatur werden α-κ-μ- und α-κ-μ-Kanäle mit extremem Fading mit der Strategie 'decode and forward' analysiert.
