Helen Troy, misnamed by her hysterically romantic mother, resembles in nothing this ideal of erotic beauty. Until she finds herself the object of love by three men: Her first boyfriend Robin, who suddenly returns after 15 years and wants to pick up their relationship where he had left it off to go into the world and find 'the core of things'. Her husband Philip, the father of her three daughters, who had married her out of responsibility when she got pregnant by him, and who eventually falls in love with her. And her new suitor, Lance, with whom she is in love but refuses to consume the relationship while she is still married to Philip. The three men idealize her in different ways and for different reasons. To escape their demands, Helen resorts to the behavior she has learned from early childhood on, namely to agree with everybody, no matter how wrong they are. As a result Helen is lying, obscuring, and deceiving, and in her own mind begins to resemble that mythical creation, the Trojan Horse, in which everyone sees what they want to see, but which also carries the forces of destruction in its belly.
