Der Tod löst bei den meisten Menschen Angst und Schrecken aus. Wenn also eine unheilbare Krankheit die Nähe des Endes des Lebens offenbart, bringt dies verschiedene Konflikte mit sich. In diesem Buch soll beschrieben werden, was in den letzten fünf Jahren über die Beiträge der Krankenhauspsychologie zur Betreuung unheilbar kranker Patienten und/oder zur Palliativmedizin veröffentlicht wurde. Es soll auch einen Beitrag zu den wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen zu diesem Thema und zur Entwicklung neuer Forschungsarbeiten über praktikable Interventionen für unheilbar kranke Patienten leisten. Zwischen 2009 und 2014 wurde eine integrative Literaturrecherche in den folgenden Datenbanken durchgeführt: Periódicos Eletrônicos em Psicologia - (PEPsic); Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Sie wurden anhand von Deskriptoren identifiziert. Nach der Erfassung der Ergebnisse wurde eine Inhaltsanalyse durchgeführt, die auf die geringe Entwicklung von Studien zu diesem Thema im fraglichen Zeitraum sowie auf die mangelnde Vorbereitung der heutigen Gesellschaft auf den Umgang mit Terminologie hinweist.
