In questo libro la traduzione letteraria non viene affrontata in senso convenzionale, cioè in termini di letteratura canonica, ma piuttosto nel contesto della letteratura di consulenza (spesso trattata come auto-aiuto), utilizzando come corpus la traduzione inglese del libro di Augusto Cury Il venditore di sogni. A tal fine, viene mobilitato il concetto bakhtiniano di genere discorsivo, collegandolo al concetto di norma di Gideon Toury. Nel caso studiato, l’identificazione, la descrizione e la comprensione delle norme traduttive rivelano aspetti del funzionamento del genere discorsivo del consiglio in traduzione, mostrando le specificità del contesto di arrivo nella mobilitazione di questo genere.
