Cette étude examine comment une mauvaise gestion économique a limité la capacité du Liberia à exercer sa souveraineté et vice versa. Elle explore les luttes auxquelles a été confrontée la gouvernance politique et économique du Liberia et met également en évidence les complexités qui constituent le cœur des mécontentements existants dans les cadres mondiaux actuels pour le commerce international, les investissements et la gouvernance. L’affirmation centrale est que les cadres réglementaires médiocres, les institutions dysfonctionnelles et les faibles capacités humaines ont ouvert le pays à l’exploitation et aux manœuvres des entreprises étrangères. En particulier, l’étude affirme que les IDE/concessions pourraient générer de plus grands bénéfices pour le pays ou sa population, s’ils étaient réglementés correctement.
