This work presents an analysis of the tourist potential of the municipality of Santa Cruz dos Milagres, focusing on religious tourism, which is the main tourist activity in the municipality and is thus a reference in the state of Piauí. The specific objectives were: to describe the geo-environmental conditions of Santa Cruz dos Milagres; to characterise the socio-economic conditions of the agents involved in tourism; to identify the tourism potential of the municipality; to understand the historical evolution and dynamics of tourism; to learn about ecotourism in the municipality, highlighting the Serra Negra with its fantastic stories, the Serra do Letreiro with its rock inscriptions, witnesses to human history and the São Nicolau River; to understand whether there is sustainability in the tourism developed in the town. To carry out the research, different bibliographical and documentary sources were used on the subject in question, as well as maps of the town’s urban perimeter. In this sense, this work is recommended for students, professionals and those interested in the tourism potential of the Sanctuary of Santa Cruz do Milagres.
