L’esposizione acuta e subletale al profenofos ha avuto un impatto significativo sui profili ematologici, ionoregolatori, biochimici, enzimalogici, sulle attività degli enzimi antiossidanti, sulla genotossicità e sui profili istopatologici del pesce L. rohita. Le alterazioni di questi parametri possono fornire un segnale di allarme precoce per la determinazione del livello di tossicità acuta e subletale dei pesticidi e dei loro effetti in ambiente acquatico. I risultati del presente studio forniscono inoltre una migliore comprensione del punto finale tossicologico degli inquinanti acquatici e consentono di stabilire un livello più sicuro di queste sostanze chimiche nell’ambiente acquatico e di proteggere gli abitanti dell’acqua.
