Tierra de hombres, publicada en 1939 en Francia, es una autobiografía en la que Saint Exupéry rememora sus experiencias como piloto de la Aéropostale, en particular el accidente que sufrió en la parte libia del desierto del Sáhara en 1935 en compañía de André Prévot en el que estuvieron a punto de morir de sed. Este incidente le sirve al autor para reflexionar sobre temas esenciales, como la amistad, la muerte, el heroísmo o el sentido de la existencia. Tierra de hombres recibió el Premio de la Academia Francesa y el Premio Nacional del Libro en EE.UU., donde se publicó también en 1939 con el título Wind, Sand and Stars.
