Thorn & Bloom Magazine is a quarterly publication exploring self-care as a pathway to personal and collective liberation. Each issue interrogates how societal norms and socialisation suppress individuality, autonomy, and self-worth, positioning self-care not as indulgence, but as an act of resistance and a tool for healing. To follow the ongoing series on self-care as a form of personal and collective liberation, Thorn & Bloom Magazine Issue 06 explores The Body As Archive, a living record of memory, trauma, resilience, and delight. Our bodies hold what words cannot always reach: the ache in a shoulder that carries grief, the flutter in a chest that remembers joy, the scar that tells a story no longer spoken aloud. Through poetry and prose rooted in the feminist consciousness-raising tradition, this issue invites you to listen to what your body has been trying to say.

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
