Das Theater der Unterdrückten erlebt in Deutschland eine Renaissance, nachdem es jahrelang in sozialpädagogischen Nischen verschwand. Die emanzipatorische Theatermethode, die in sich Kunst, Selbsterfahrung und psycho-soziales sowie (sozial-) politisches Probehandeln miteinander verbindet, will benachteiligten, diskriminierten oder sonstwie unterdrückten Menschen theatrale Ausdrucksmittel übereignen. Die Übertragung von Problemen in die ästhetische Theaterarbeit eröffnet Möglichkeiten der Distanzierung und schafft gedankliche und emotionale Freiräume für die Veränderungen im Alltag oder für gewaltfreie Aktionsformen.Der Sammelband bietet den Leser/innen Beispiele der Umsetzung dieser Idee, die Partei ergreift, anhand von Projekt-, Gruppen- und Workshopberichten im deutschen und europäischen Kontext. Es finden sich auch grundsätzliche Beiträge, u.a. werden die Rolle des Humors sowie partizipative Ansätze im Forumtheater und Aktionstheaterformen diskutiert. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt des Buches ist die Darstellung der Theater-Arbeit im interkulturellen Kontext.Mehrere Beiträge aus anderen Ländern zeigen, wie verbreitet die Methode ist und wie vernetzt Praktiker/innen in einigen anderen europäischen Ländern (Beispiele: Holland, Österreich, Italien, Kroatien) mit ihr arbeiten. 3
