This five year study examined the academic achievement of Title I student participants in two [Success For All and Direct Instruction] externally developed reading interventions. The primary purpose of the study was to determine whether there were statistically significant differences in the mean scale scores as measured by national, state, and local standardized assessment between students attending Title I Schoolwide schools that implemented externally developed reading interventions and students attending Title I Schoolwide schools without externally developed reading interventions. The study examined the performance of students at ten Title I schools that had implemented schoolwide programs. Four schools implemented the Success for All (SFA) reading intervention and one school implement Direct Instruction (DI) reading intervention during the 1996-1997 school year.
