The Mayflower Connection to the Corey Family is the story of a family searching for its roots in the United States. It began with my husband, Tom, developing excellent genealogy skills while researching his Irish background. He wondered when the Corey’s came into this country and that curiosity led him on a journey through twelve generations to the Mayflower ship coming to the shores of America. Each new discovery led me to amazement and awe at the determination, strength, and courage of my ancestors. They were true pioneers, leaving home and family to come to America in the 1600s. This spirit of adventure was evident even in the ninth generation when Joseph and Mary Cory moved to New York. After Joseph’s death, Mary and her children became pioneers in Michigan, arriving within two years of its first settlers.Tom and I have planned several vacations to see where my ancestors lived, worked, and died. Being a descendant of the Mayflower opened a great deal of information on the early settlers. Because of their importance in the history of the United States, we have been privileged to enter their homes, view their lifestyle, see where they worked, and even see actual documents with their handwriting. What an honor it has been to view American history through the lives of the Corey family.
