THE LEGEND OF MONTIGNOSO CASTLE

The Legend of Montignoso Castle by Vera Kryzhanovskaia (dictated by the spirit Count J.W. Rochester) is a sweeping Spiritist novel that blends gothic horror, breathtaking esoteric magic, and the profound exploration of reincarnation and karmic justice.Baron Pavel Rothschild and the beautiful Valéria Samburoff are two young Russian aristocrats tormented by strange nervous afflictions and terrifying, fragmented visions of the past. Seeking rest, they travel with relatives to summer in the imposing, gloomy ruins of the Castle of Montignoso in Italy. But the castle holds a dark secret: Pavel is the exact spitting image of the castle’s most infamous ancestor, Count Paulo de Montignoso, a cruel nobleman cursed centuries ago when his murdered lover, Giovana, gripped his wrist with such a powerful post-mortem grasp that his hand had to be amputated.Trapped in the heavy, haunted atmosphere of the estate, Pavel and Valéria are overcome by a dangerous dualism. In deep somnambulistic trances at night, they break into the sealed, abandoned wing of the castle. Possessed by their past incarnations, they become Paulo and Giovana, passionately and dangerously reliving the sins and tragedies of their former lives. The karmic nightmare reaches a fatal climax when Dina-Pavel’s unloved, secret wife and the reincarnation of a wicked ancient sorceress-arrives at the castle. Dina discovers an ancient 'Elixir of Love' hidden in the castle walls, drinks it to enslave Pavel, and is instantly petrified into a stone corpse. Shocked by the nightly horrors, Valéria attempts suicide and falls into a death-like catalepsy, her hand locking around Pavel’s wrist in the exact, unbreakable grip of the ancient curse.Salvation arrives in the form of Sir Gerald Gray, a supreme initiate and mage from the Himalayas. Sir Gerald uses powerful elemental magic to cleanse the castle, break the death grip, and free their souls from the vengeful phantoms of the past. Recognizing his own spiritual weakness, Pavel makes a heartbreaking choice: he inherits a massive fortune but leaves a devastated Valéria behind to follow Sir Gerald to India. For five years, Pavel undergoes a rigorous occult initiation in the Himalayas. In the ruins of a subterranean, petrified city, he uncovers the ultimate root of his sins-a lifetime 18,000 years ago where he sacrificed his true love to a demonic dragon. Purified and having mastered the occult arts, Pavel returns to Russia to discover the son Valéria secretly bore after his departure. When a massive fire threatens to kill Valéria, Pavel uses his newly mastered magic to miraculously walk through the flames and save her. Triumphant over the beast within and the curses of the past, Pavel and Valéria finally unite their family, transforming their dark karmic history into a future of spiritual light and selfless love.
