The novel also introduces Astartos, a breathtakingly handsome and fearless gladiator capable of taming wild beasts with a single piercing glance. Astartos becomes the clandestine protector of both women, risking his own life and navigating the lethal whims of the court, where the passionate intrigues of envious women like Phoebe weave deadly traps.
