Theauthor, Dr. Thomas Mockaitis, draws on the experienceof other nations, particularly the United Kingdom, toidentify broad lessons that might inform the conductof this and future campaigns. He also documents theprocess by which soldiers and Marines in Iraq haveadapted to the challenging situation and incorporatedboth historic and contemporary lessons into the newcounterinsurgency doctrine contained in Field Manual3-24
