The goal of this work is to help Youtsey descendants connect to their family roots. It is a compilation of information pertaining to Youtsey families living in the United States, which spans more than 250 years. This study begins with the immigrant Johann Peter Youtsey in 1744. He settled in Frederick County, Maryland, and is the progenitor of the Maryland line. The Maryland and main body of the Youtsey family is substantial, with over 2,400 people plus spouses and in-laws. This work opens with an examination of the Youtsey name, followed by family stories, then familial lines. Additional topics cover: family experiences, religious connections, coming to America, the Maryland years, migration West, the Kentucky years, the Ohio years, Miami County (Ohio), the Indiana years, Missouri, populating the United States, Youtsey lands, military service, personal stories, cemetery pictures, investigation and analysis of the bigger picture, and, two types of records: passengers lists and Civil War pension records. Supplemental material includes: Bible records and similar journals, a John Stuart dictation, Youtsey letters (1840–1922), selected poems by Henry Eckert Youtsey, newspaper articles, a Kentucky tax chart (1807–1848), books by and including Youtseys, book citations, and genealogical reports. The genealogical reports cover three generations of Johann Peter “Peter” Youtsey descendants, with source citations. This compilation is the result of over forty years of research by the author who collected everything with the Youtsey name and its many variants. Multiple lines have been identified and are located in the appendices. An Index to Genealogical Reports, an Index to Story, maps, facsimile reprints of original documents, a wealth of photographs, and numerous data-filled tables add to the value of this work. This book contains a CD-Rom: The Descendants of Johann Peter Youtsey and Other Families with Similar Surname Spellings (959 pages), which includes genealogies for five distinct families, complete with source citations and a full-name index. Genealogies include: Descendants of Johann Peter “Peter” Youtsey (nine generations), Descendants of Jacob Youtsey / Jutzy (seven generations), Descendants of Peter Youtsey / Youtcey / Youtzy (five generations), Descendants of Jacob Youtsey / Yeutze (five generations), Descendants of Lewis Youtzy / Youtsey (six generations). Allied family surnames include: Beckenbaugh, Brandenburg, Bristow, Culbertson, Derr, Hendricks, Iseminger / Ensminger, Main, Stevens, Sweany, Tinder, Turpin, Weil / Wile, and Yaste. 3
