The Hawaiian Archipelago is a travelogue written by Isabella L. Bird, a renowned British explorer and writer, describing her experiences during her journey to the Hawaiian Islands in the late 19th century. The book is a detailed account of her travels across the archipelago, including her observations of the local culture, customs, and traditions of the Hawaiian people. Bird’s vivid descriptions of the natural beauty of the islands, including the lush tropical forests, towering volcanoes, and pristine beaches, make this book an excellent resource for anyone interested in the natural history of Hawaii. Additionally, her encounters with the local flora and fauna, such as the colorful birds, exotic fish, and rare plants, provide a unique insight into the biodiversity of the region. The Hawaiian Archipelago also includes Bird’s reflections on the impact of Western colonization on the Hawaiian Islands, as well as her observations of the social and political changes that were taking place during her visit. Her keen insights into the complex relationship between the Hawaiian people and the outside world make this book a valuable historical document.Overall, The Hawaiian Archipelago is a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in the history, culture, and natural beauty of Hawaii. With its engaging narrative style and detailed descriptions, this book is sure to captivate readers and transport them to the tropical paradise of the Hawaiian Islands. You will remember that I wrote from Kilauea regarding the terror which the Goddess of the Crater inspired, and her high-priest was necessarily a very awful personage. The particular high-priest of whom Mr. Coan told me was six feet five inches in height, and his sister, who was co-ordinate with him in authority, had a scarcely inferior altitude. His chief business was to keep Pl appeased. He lived on the shore, but often went up to Kilauea with sacrifices. If a human victim were needed, he had only to point to a native, and the unfortunate wretch was at once strangled. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
