The Golden Lotus is a novel written by Alfred Barrett in 1901. The book is set in China during the Ming Dynasty and follows the story of a wealthy merchant named Wu Song. Wu Song is married to a beautiful woman named Pan Jinlian, but he becomes suspicious of her fidelity and begins to investigate. He discovers that she is having an affair with his brother, and in a fit of rage, he kills them both. The rest of the novel follows Wu Song’s attempts to evade the law and the consequences of his actions. The Golden Lotus is a classic work of Chinese literature and is known for its portrayal of the corruption and decadence of the Ming Dynasty.
