The Divine Mind

'The Divine Mind : Being the Treatises of the Fifth Ennead' represents a cornerstone of Neoplatonic thought, penned by the influential philosopher Plotinus. As the fifth installment in his monumental series of metaphysical inquiries, this work delves deeply into the nature of the Intellect (Nous) and its relationship to the One and the Soul. Plotinus explores the structure of reality through a rigorous intellectual framework, seeking to bridge the gap between human consciousness and the divine source of all existence. In these treatises, the author examines the concept of the Divine Mind as the second hypostasis, characterized by eternal contemplation and the containment of the Forms. The text addresses profound questions regarding self-knowledge, the emanation of reality, and the path to spiritual enlightenment through reason and intuition. Plotinus’s insights have historically shaped Western mysticism and theology, offering a sophisticated blend of Platonic tradition and original metaphysical vision. This volume serves as an essential resource for students of ancient philosophy, providing a window into the late classical period’s most significant philosophical system. Through its exploration of the cosmic order and the inner life of the mind, 'The Divine Mind' remains a vital text for understanding the foundations of metaphysical thought and the enduring legacy of The Enneads. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
