The Circus Menagerie

'The Circus Menagerie' provides an immersive, behind-the-scenes exploration of the exotic animals and dedicated caretakers that defined the golden age of the American circus. Written with a keen eye for detail, Edwin P. Norwood takes readers past the main performance ring and into the heart of the traveling zoo, where elephants, lions, tigers, and giraffes resided between shows. The work captures the immense logistical feat of transporting, feeding, and caring for a vast array of species as they moved from city to city across the country. The narrative focuses on the unique personalities of individual animals and the deep bonds formed between the creatures and their trainers. From the strength of the working elephants to the majestic presence of the big cats, the book illustrates the daily routines and the specialized knowledge required to maintain a healthy and vibrant menagerie. 'The Circus Menagerie' serves as a fascinating historical record of animal husbandry and the cultural spectacle of the big top.
