The Book of Ruth is one of the greatest short stories ever written, and it is one of the most beautiful as well.  It  is quite simple in structure, but it is written in a most appealing manner.  The story is set in the ancient time of the Judges and involves a group of individuals who are destined to share an integral role in the ancestry of King David.  The principal character in the book is a Moabite  woman named Ruth.  The hero of the story is Boaz.  The son of Boaz and Ruth becomes the grandfather of King David.The story is a compelling development and blending of history, religious tradition, mystery and romance.  It is significant that concepts, principles and facts presented in the book have relevance for the exercise of religious faith in our  time.  This is especially true of the Christian faith.   3
