The Admiral’s Ward is a novel written by Alexander, Mrs. in 1883. The story revolves around a young girl named Maud who is taken in by Admiral Sir Peter Leigh after her father dies. Maud’s father was a sailor who had served under the Admiral and had asked him to look after his daughter if anything were to happen to him. Maud is brought up in the Admiral’s household along with his own daughter, Edith, and his nephew, Jack. The story follows Maud’s journey as she grows up and falls in love with Jack. However, their love is not accepted by the Admiral, who wants Jack to marry Edith instead. The novel explores themes of love, loyalty, and family relationships, as well as the societal norms and expectations of the time period.
