Leki chemioterapeutyczne stały się często ograniczone ze względu na ich poważne (niepożądane) skutki uboczne w wielu niepowiązanych narządach. Rośliny lecznicze zostały wybrane do połączenia z nanotechnologią w celu osiągnięcia wyższych celów terapeutycznych. Moringa oleifera jest bogata w szeroką gamę fitoskładników (w tym sterole, garbniki, flawonoidy, terpenoidy, saponiny, alkaloidy, antrachinony i witaminy związane z różnymi minerałami), które są odpowiedzialne za skuteczność biologiczną i przeciwutleniającą przed szkodliwymi skutkami wywołanymi stresem oksydacyjnym. Doniesiono, że fitoskładniki w liściach rośliny były bardziej skuteczne niż te w nasionach. W związku z tym liście zostały wybrane do połączenia z nanocząsteczkami srebra (Ag-NPs) w celu przygotowania nanoekstraktu ze srebra roślinnego za pomocą zielonej nanotechnologii. Zwiększenie aktywności przeciwutleniającej, zmiatającej i cytotoksycznej w ekstrakcie po włączeniu Ag-NPs przypisuje się zwiększeniu zawartości związków fenolowych.
