O cancro colorrectal (CCR) é considerado a terceira maior causa de morte por cancro. Os medicamentos quimioterapêuticos tornaram-se frequentemente limitados devido aos seus efeitos secundários graves (indesejáveis) em vários órgãos não relacionados. As plantas medicinais foram selecionadas para serem combinadas com a nanotecnologia para atingir objectivos terapêuticos mais elevados. A Moringa oleifera é rica numa vasta gama de fitoconstituintes (incluindo esteróis, taninos, flavonóides, terpenóides, saponinas, alcalóides, antraquinonas e vitaminas associadas a vários minerais) que são responsáveis pela eficiência biológica e antioxidante contra os efeitos deletérios induzidos pelo stress oxidativo. Foi relatado que os fitoconstituintes das folhas da planta eram mais eficazes do que os das sementes. Por conseguinte, as folhas foram selecionadas para serem incorporadas com nanopartículas de prata (Ag-NPs) para preparar um nano-extrato de planta de prata através da nanotecnologia verde. O aumento das actividades antioxidante, de limpeza e citotóxica do extrato após a incorporação de Ag-NPs foi atribuído ao aumento dos compostos fenólicos.
