So sind die TARGET2-Verbindlichkeiten von Notenbanken aus hochverschuldeten EU-Staaten bei Austritt aus der EU oder aus dem Euro für die Gläubigerländer gefährdet. In der Finanzliteratur wurde dieser Entwicklung bisher kaum Rechnung getragen. Petra Karadzic und Andreas Keller erklären die Grundlagen sowie die Funktionsweise des TARGET2-Systems, um die Entstehung und Auswirkung der TARGET2-Salden zu verdeutlichen. Der Einbezug von Argumenten der Befürworter und Kritiker hilft, das undurchsichtige komplexe System als Ganzes zu verstehen.
