Immer mehr Verkehrsunfälle werden dadurch verursacht, dass die Fahrer nicht in der Lage sind, mit plötzlichen Änderungen der Fahrbedingungen umzugehen, z. B. mit dem Licht eines Fahrzeugs, das aus der Gegenrichtung kommt. In Indien ist dies besonders schwerwiegend, da die Straßen schmal sind und es kaum Mittelstreifen gibt. Der Einsatz von Fahrerüberwachungssystemen kann dieses Problem bis zu einem gewissen Grad lindern. Das Fahrerüberwachungssystem nutzt Veränderungen bei physiologischen Merkmalen des Fahrers wie Herzschlag oder Gesichtsausdruck. Die Wirkung des Fahrzeuglichts spiegelt sich beispielsweise im Verhalten der geöffneten oder geschlossenen Augen wider, also im Blinzeln. Ein ähnliches Verhalten zeigt der Fahrer auch bei Blendung durch Sonnenlicht. Bei Geräuscheffekten wird der Fahrer nervös und es können Falten auf der Stirn entstehen. Es wird ein einfaches System mit einer Webcam für die Bilderfassung in Echtzeit und einem Algorithmus zur Erkennung von Veränderungen in den Bildeigenschaften des Fahrers verwendet.
