Er verlor seine Frau einige Monate zuvor - sie ertrank im gemeinsamen Badeurlaub. Er war Diabetiker und spritzte sich eine Überdosis Insulin - für ihn kam jede Hilfe zu spät. Im Alter von etwa 50 Jahren verlor er sein Augenlicht und versuchte bereits damals seinem Leben ein Ende zu setzen. Damals konnte er von seiner Frau gerettet werden. Die gestellte Aufgabe in einem Zitat von Hermann Burger scheint in diesem Fall einfach zu lösen: „Der Tod ist gegeben - finden Sie die Lebensursache heraus!' (Köster, Thomas, o.J., S. 1). Dieser Themenkomplex soll der Inhalt der hier vorliegenden Arbeit sein - Suizid im Alter. Was versteht man darunter? Inwiefern können statistische Erhebungen einen Einblick gewähren? Welche grundlegenden Faktoren können zum Suizid im Alter führen? Kann man ihn verhindern?
