Il problema affrontato nel presente studio riguarda i dermatoglifi delle impronte digitali e palmari tra i Malas, una popolazione appartenente alla casta registrata dell’Andhra Pradesh. Lo studio dei dermatoglifi è un campo importante sia per l’antropologia che per la genetica umana, in quanto fornisce informazioni sulla variazione genetica. L’analisi delle impronte digitali e palmari sviluppata da Sir Francis Galton nel 1890 è stata oggetto di identificazione personale. Gli studi dermatoglifici, come altre caratteristiche ereditarie, mostrano variazioni geografiche, etniche e di sesso e interazioni ereditarie.
