Negli ultimi vent’anni, l’impegno delle università, delle aziende e dei centri di ricerca nei paesi sviluppati è stato rivolto alla ricerca di combustibili alternativi in grado di eliminare, o almeno ridurre, l’impatto ambientale dei combustibili fossili. Tra queste alternative, il dimetil etere (DME) ha recentemente attirato l’attenzione e suscitato interesse. In questo libro viene presentata una discussione sistematica e dettagliata dell’applicabilità dei quasi cristalli Al-Cu-Fe nelle reazioni di ossidazione del metanolo, attraverso le quali si ottiene il dimetil etere. Il combustibile a idrogeno è una delle alternative per la sostenibilità ambientale. Una delle prospettive e innovazioni tecnologiche è quella di raggiungere un ampio mercato che è quello dell’industria petrolifera e dei suoi derivati, ovvero l’industria petrolchimica. In questo studio, la lega quasi cristallina Al-Cu-Fe, preparata per fusione e trattata termicamente, è stata sottoposta a test di attività catalitica. I risultati sperimentali così ottenuti suggeriscono che il catalizzatore quasi cristallino può essere considerato un’ottima alternativa per le reazioni catalitiche. Il basso costo di formazione della lega è un ulteriore vantaggio dell’utilizzo dei quasi cristalli come catalizzatori industriali.
