Vor nun fast 17 Jahren haben OTTO ZUCKERKANDL und ich gelegentlich einer Besprechung iiber die operative Zuganglichkeit der Prostata erfahren, daB jeder von uns, allerdings von ganz anderen Gesichtspunkten ausgehend, sich mit dem Problem der Prostatahypertrophie beschaftige. Ihn hat die Beobachtung am Krankenbett, mich die Erfahrung am Sektionstisch zu der Uberzeugung gedrangt, daB die bis zu jener Zeit geschopften Erkenntnisse dieser Krankheit bei we item unvollstandige sewn. Langst bestandene personliche Freundschaft und wissenschaftliche Interessen­ gemeinschaft einte uns von diesem Augenblicke zum Zwecke gemeinsamen Studiums und gemeinsamer Arbeit iiber das Wesen der Prostatahypertrophie. So sind wir denn durch nahezu 17 Jahre einen Weg gegangen, beide von dem Bestreben beseelt, der Wissenschaft zu dienen, und haben miteinander alle Hoffnungen des Erfolges erlebt, aIle Enttauschungen wissenscha£tlicher Irrfahrten erlitten. 1908 haben wir bereits in einer kurzen Mitteilung un sere Ansicht iiber die Kompression des Ureters durch den Ductus deferens veroffentlicht. 1m Jahre 1911 publizierten wir 'die anatomischen Untersuchungen iiber die Prostatahypertrophie', in welchen wir in aller Kiirze die Resultate unserer damaligen Erfahrungen mitteilten.
