Technogene Ablagerungen sind Sedimentablagerungen, die durch menschliches Handeln in der Umwelt entstehen. Der Mensch steht in einer Abhängigkeitsbeziehung zur Natur, da er aus ihr die Ressourcen für sein Überleben bezieht. Diese Beziehung gerät jedoch aus dem Gleichgewicht, sobald die Gesellschaft den Raum, in dem sie sich befindet, übermäßig verändert. In diesem Zusammenhang hat die Untersuchung der Entstehung technogener Ablagerungen dazu beigetragen, Umweltdiagnosen in Gebieten zu erstellen, die durch die Gesellschaft stark verändert wurden. So soll dieses Buch anhand einer Fallstudie in der Flussniederung des Santo Anastácio Forschern und anderen an diesem Thema Interessierten als Hilfestellung dienen.
