Das Buch besteht aus fünf Kapiteln, die jeweils die Perspektive von ausgegrenzten Frauen oder Mädchen beleuchten und Methoden und Strategien zur Förderung der geschlechtsspezifischen Integration vorstellen. Kapitel 1 befasst sich mit der sozialen Absicherung von ausgegrenzten weiblichen Haushaltsvorständen. Kapitel 2 befasst sich mit der geschlechtsspezifischen Ausgrenzung im Bildungsbereich und konzentriert sich dabei auf die Erfahrungen von Analphabetinnen und Schulabbrecherinnen. Kapitel 3 beleuchtet die Herausforderungen, mit denen gefährdete städtische Landarbeiterinnen konfrontiert sind. Kapitel 4 zielt darauf ab, Binnenvertriebene und Mädchen mit Behinderungen einzubeziehen. Kapitel 5 schließlich versucht, den stigmatisierten Frauen und Mädchen, die mit HIV/AIDS leben, eine Stimme zu geben.
