Proces starzenia się populacji wywołał szereg debat na temat nowych ścieżek polityki zdrowotnej dla osób starszych. Wszystkie zmiany związane ze starością są czynnikami determinującymi wrażliwość tych osób pod względem zagrożeń dla ich zdrowia, a także ich jakości życia (QoL). Jest to bezpośrednio związane z aspektami emocjonalnymi, poznawczymi, psychologicznymi i funkcjonalnymi. Niniejsza książka przedstawia wyniki dotyczące profilu osób starszych mieszkających w społeczności, zarejestrowanych w podstawowej opiece zdrowotnej w dwóch gminach w północno-wschodniej Brazylii. Omówiono również związek między profilem socjodemograficznym osób starszych mieszkających w społeczności a aspektami ich jakości życia. Przeprowadzona za pomocą bogatego przeglądu bibliograficznego dyskusja na ten temat odnosi wyniki pracy do ważnych ustaleń z badań krajowych i międzynarodowych, opublikowanych w bardzo istotnych czasopismach. Książka ta jest zatem skierowana do pracowników służby zdrowia w podstawowej opiece zdrowotnej, a także do badaczy starzenia się i ogółu społeczeństwa, biorąc pod uwagę jej zakres.
