Diese HVS führen zu einer Instabilität der Solarmodule, die von bestimmten Faktoren abhängt, die eine unerwünschte Eigenschaft namens potentialinduzierte Degradation (PID) verursachen. Die Faktoren, die sich auf die PID auswirken, sind (Spannung, Feuchtigkeit und hohe Temperaturen), die einen Leckstrom zwischen den Solarzellen und dem Boden erzeugen. Der Schlüssel liegt darin, das PID-Phänomen und die Eigenschaften des Leckstroms zu verstehen, die noch nicht vollständig geklärt sind.
