In dieser Einführung in die Sozialstrukturanalyse wird zum einen grundlegend nach den Ursachen sozialer Differenzierung und nach der relativen Stabilität von Ungleichheitsstrukturen gefragt. Hierzu wird das Zusammenspiel verschiedener differenzierungsrelevanter Arenen (gesellschaftliche Produktion, Sozialstaat, private Haushalte) in theoretischer wie empirischer Perspektive analysiert. Zudem werden wesentliche Institutionen dargestellt, die an der Stabilisierung und Reproduktion ungleicher Lebenslagen beteiligt sind.Zum anderen werden verschiedene Modelle der klassischen (Klassen- und Schichtkonzepte) und modernen Sozialstrukturanalyse (Milieuanalyse, Intersektionalität, transnationale Analyseansätze, Entstrukturierung) vorgestellt, die sozial differente Lebenslagen entlang verschiedener theoretischer Konzepte mehr oder weniger strukturiert darstellen.
