This text comprises an attempt by the author to render the science of acoustics in a way that it can be “interesting to all intelligent persons”, including those who do not have any special scientific knowledge. John Tyndall was a prominent 19th century physicist, whose initial scientific fame arose in the 1850s from his study of diamagnetism. This book was originally published in 1867 and is proudly republished now with an introductory biography of the author.
