Schwache Sonnenzyklen nehmen das Maximum und den Boden der Wolf-Gleissberg-Zyklen ein und führen zu Klimaveränderungen, die einen plötzlichen Anstieg der ostafrikanischen Seen verursachen. Der plötzliche Anstieg von 1962-64 ereignete sich an der Schnittstelle der Zyklen 19-20. Zyklus 20 ist schwach. Die Periode schwacher Sonnenzyklen von 1878 bis 1922 begann mit dem plötzlichen Anstieg der Seen im Jahr 1878 aufgrund von Zyklus 12. Der zyklische Anstieg und Abfall der Seen erfolgte aufgrund der Sonnenzyklen 13 bis 15. Der plötzliche Anstieg von 1997 ist auf den schwachen Zyklus 23 zurückzuführen. Die Beobachtungen von Altimetriesatelliten ermöglichten es uns, unsere Studie auf mehrere ostafrikanische Seen auszudehnen und auch den Antrieb von Zyklus 24 zu untersuchen. Der Antrieb durch die Sonne ist orts- und zeitabhängig. Die plötzlichen Anstiege der Seen von 1878 und 1997 werden auf sehr starke El-Niño-Ereignisse zurückgeführt, auf die sehr starke La-Niña-Ereignisse folgten. Der Anstieg von 1962 wird auf den negativen Index der Nordatlantischen Oszillation (NAO) zurückgeführt.
