Nonostante questa importanza, diversi vincoli ne ostacolano lo sviluppo. In Niger, l’allevamento tradizionale del pollame è caratterizzato da un’agricoltura di scavenging in cui i polli si guadagnano il cibo. Questo è considerato a basso contenuto di proteine; da qui l’effetto di carenza nella dieta di questi polli. Per rimediare a questo, l’incorporazione dei vermi sembrava opportuna. Quindi, quali sarebbero i fattori per la sua adozione? Questa ricerca ha rivelato che l’adozione di vermi nell’allevamento di pollame si scontrerebbe con sensibilità culturali non molto favorevoli all’insetto produttore di larve. Inoltre, la loro tecnica di produzione dovrebbe soddisfare i requisiti di adattabilità, semplicità, mantenimento dell’istinto di cova e materno, non cannibalismo e valore aggiunto rispetto alle pratiche esistenti. Tuttavia, lo spettro di utilizzo dei vermi, estendendosi alla gestione dei rifiuti e all’ammendamento naturale del suolo, potrebbe essere di maggiore interesse per i comuni, gli allevatori di pollame e gli agricoltori.
