Questo studio, Social Media e gestione delle emergenze sanitarie nella metropoli di Makurdi, nello Stato del Benue, in Nigeria, ha cercato di valutare l’uso dei social media nella gestione delle emergenze sanitarie tra i residenti della metropoli di Makurdi, nello Stato del Benue. È stato utilizzato un disegno di ricerca per sondaggio e il questionario è stato adottato come strumento per la raccolta dei dati. I risultati hanno rivelato che gli utenti dei social media della metropoli di Makurdi danno ampio risalto agli incidenti di emergenza sanitaria e che gli utenti dei social media della metropoli di Makurdi discutono quotidianamente degli incidenti di emergenza sanitaria quando si verificano sulle piattaforme di social media dominanti. È emerso inoltre che l’uso dei social media contribuisce alla gestione delle situazioni di emergenza sanitaria nello Stato di Makurdi Benue, migliorando la diffusione tempestiva delle situazioni di emergenza, la facilità di accesso alle informazioni sugli incidenti di emergenza e il supporto delle informazioni con foto per aumentare la credibilità. Sulla base dei risultati, lo studio raccomanda, tra le altre cose, che il governo riconosca la forza di connessione dei social media come un vero e proprio canale di comunicazione per promuovere campagne sulle emergenze sanitarie.
