La sintesi di nanomateriali con morfologia diversificata per diverse applicazioni in medicina e optoelettronica è diventata oggi oggetto di grande interesse per i ricercatori. A tal fine sono state sviluppate diverse vie di sintesi semplici. Tuttavia, la ricerca di una tecnica affidabile, economica e riproducibile che consenta di controllare le dimensioni e la morfologia dei materiali non è ancora giunta al termine. In questo contesto, l’utilizzo degli ultrasuoni nella sintesi di materiali nanostrutturati rappresenta uno strumento innovativo e versatile grazie alle condizioni di reazione semplici, alla formazione di prodotti più puri e alla riduzione al minimo degli scarti. Gli ossidi metallici inorganici come lo ZnO hanno attirato molta attenzione nell’ultimo decennio grazie alla loro nuova applicabilità nell’industria. Le sue interessanti proprietà, quali l’elevata conduttanza, la stabilità chimica e termica, l’ampio e diretto band gap di 3,37 eV e l’elevata energia di legame di eccitazione di 60 meV, lo hanno reso il preferito dai ricercatori per essere studiato sempre più approfonditamente. Questo libro descrive gli sforzi compiuti nella sintesi del nano ZnO mediante tecnica sonochimica e nello studio delle proprietà strutturali e ottiche.
