A síntese de nanomateriais com morfologia diversificada para diferentes aplicações na medicina e na optoeletrónica tornou-se um tema de grande interesse para os investigadores atualmente. Para isso, foram desenvolvidas diferentes rotas de síntese fáceis. Mas a busca por uma técnica confiável, econômica e reproduzível, que permita controlar o tamanho e a morfologia dos materiais, ainda não chegou ao fim. Nesse contexto, a utilização de ultrassom na síntese de materiais nanoestruturados é uma ferramenta nova e versátil devido às condições de reação fáceis, à formação de produtos mais puros e à minimização de resíduos. Óxidos metálicos inorgânicos, como o ZnO, têm atraído muita atenção na última década devido à sua nova aplicabilidade na indústria. As suas propriedades interessantes, como alta condutância, estabilidade química e térmica, banda proibida ampla e direta de 3,37 eV e alta energia de ligação de excitação de 60 meV, tornaram-no o favorito dos investigadores para ser cada vez mais estudado. Este livro descreve os esforços feitos na síntese de nano ZnO por técnica sonoquímica e no estudo das propriedades estruturais e ópticas.
