A reação de Mitsunobu é muito importante para a síntese de éter a partir de fenol e álcool. O [7-metoxi-2-(4-metoxifenil)-1-benzofurano-5-il]metanol (2) foi sintetizado a partir da vanilina utilizando uma série de reações conhecidas, tais como a reação de Mannich, acetilação, hidrólise, reação de Wittig e hidrogenação. Este derivado de metanol benzofurano (2) condensou com 4-fluorofenol utilizando DEAD em THF. O produto final 5-[(4-fluorofenoxi)metil]-7-metoxi-2-(4-metoxifenil)-1-benzofurano (3) foi caracterizado utilizando IR, NMR e espectros de massa e estudou-se a sua atividade biológica através de acoplamento molecular utilizando o software de acoplamento molecular Glide. A atividade do éter (3) foi comparada com a do seu análogo amina.
