A síndrome antifosfolípide (APS) é uma doença do sistema imunitário caracterizada por coagulação excessiva do sangue nas artérias e veias e/ou certas complicações na gravidez, como abortos recorrentes, morte fetal inexplicável ou parto prematuro, com a presença de anticorpos antifosfolípides, como anticorpos anticardiolipina ou anticoagulantes lúpicos no sangue. A síndrome antifosfolípide é classificada em primária e secundária; a primária refere-se à condição encontrada em mulheres grávidas sem evidência clínica ou laboratorial de outra condição autoimune definida. Já a APS secundária é a condição associada a outras doenças, principalmente lúpus eritematoso sistémico (LES), e também pode ser encontrada em outras doenças autoimunes, ocasionalmente durante infeções, neoplasias malignas e em resposta a alguns tipos de medicamentos.
