A necessidade de utilizar tubos na área industrial geralmente decorre do facto de o ponto de geração ou armazenamento de fluidos estar geralmente longe do seu ponto de utilização. As instalações para este fim são compostas principalmente por tubos e acessórios. Entre estes acessórios, as válvulas são dispositivos que controlam o fluxo de fluidos e desempenham um papel insubstituível nas instalações hidráulicas, representando 20 a 30% dos custos dos tubos e cerca de 8% do custo total de uma fábrica. Com o objetivo de avaliar e melhorar a eficiência do uso de válvulas em tubos industriais, este livro visa analisar numericamente o fluxo em uma válvula borboleta em um tubo de água, para obter variações de pressão e outras características físicas, e comparar os dados obtidos da simulação numérica com os dados reais de perda de carga em uma válvula borboleta em um tubo de água.
